The Argentinian World Cup winner then continually said: “No, no, no,” while breaking out into hysterics.

Nunez endured a difficult start to life at Anfield after joining the club from Benfica for an initial £64million in 2022.

But has has impressed this term – chipping in with seven goals and six assists in 17 games in all competitions.

Now a regular in Jurgen Klopp‘s team, he is finally beginning to show the form that saw him be one of Europe’s most feared strikers during his time in Portugal.

“Everyone can see; look at him how he kept the ball for us, who would have thought he could do that for us last year?

“[The] standout was Darwin because Brentford wanted long balls so he started the pressing. [His] work-rate was insane.”

He added: “In all the moments we could keep the ball on the ground and we could play football, with Darwin connecting the game for us exceptionally, we were super dangerous.”

Both Mac Allister and Nunez are set to go up against one another on the pitch when Argentina take on Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier on Friday.
