The Sun report that Diallo is ready to test himself in a less physical league than the Championship, with the Dutch Eredivisie sounded out as a possibility.

Manchester United have no intention of selling Diallo and view the 20-year-old as a big prospect for the future.

The Red Devils prefer their starlet to leave on another season-long loan to further aid his development and are happy for him to try his luck on the continent.

Diallo has netted 13 times in 37 Championship games this season, including a beautiful free-kick in their play-off win over Luton on Saturday, making him a fan favourite at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland’s game at Preston on Monday could be Diallo’s final game for the Black Cats and boss Tony Mowbray revealed his regret that the club have been unable to hold onto the winger for a while longer.

Mowbray said: “The loans’ manager from Manchester United was here yesterday and I had a long, long, long chat with him, and I was saying: ‘It’s a shame we didn’t do a two-year loan,’ and we’re half-way through it.”
