Renowned Tipster and Broadcaster, Ed ‘Longshot Ted’ Quigley has been in sublime form, and provides his best bets for Friday, with the start of Ascot’s Christmas Meeting taking centre-stage.

Ted’s bets for Saturday, December 23:

Ascot 12.40 – Wrappedinmay

WRAPPEDUPINMAY has left punters red-faced in recent times, but this looks the perfect opportunity to make amends for the Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden combination.

The 5-year-old has habitually been getting turned over as an odds-on favourite, but goes into the Handicap ranks for the first time, and off a mark of 118 this scopey sort can thrive. Being upped in trip to an extended 2m7f, all his stamina can come into play here where I expect Harry Cobden to make plenty of use of the son of Ocovango.

In time, this powerful looking sort will make up into a smart staying Chaser, but can take care of business on this occasion by registering his first win over Hurdles for the Ditcheat team

Haydock 1.30 – Bill Baxter each-way

BILL BAXTER ran well for a long way in the Coral Gold Cup at Newbury on ground that was probably a shade too lively for him as he finished eighth behind Datsalrightgino when runing from out of the handicap. He has plenty of smart form on testing ground, and this wonderful jumper will be very much at home here on a flat-left handed track with the mud flying. This unexposed 7-year-old drops into relatively calmer waters here, with just the potential of 8 rivals to take him on. The accessor has been kind, easing the gelding 3lb for his recent exploits, and he can put his best foot forwards here in a scenario that will be much more to his liking. James Bowen gets back on board the Warren Greatrex representative, and I think that the collaboration have a rock-solid each-way chance of defying top weight.

Ascot 2.25 – Blueking D’Oroux each-way

BLUEKING D’OROUX is my each-way play to land the Long Walk Hurdle in what looks like a race that is a bit of a head scratcher and very much a clash of the old guard taking on the younger brigade.

Paul Nicholls has expressed how he he wouldn’t usually look at the Staying Hurdle route with a 4-year-old, but he was tempted to ‘roll the dice’ with the gelding in those events as he handled the step up in trip to an extended 2m3f at Ascot last time out and is clearly blossoming.

The 3m Hurdle scene has a very mudied look to it, and I like the look of Harry Cobden’s mount who is unbeaten at the track and looks worth a crack at this on ground he will love.

Ascot 3.00 – Git Maker each-way

The Jamie Snowden team are having a cracking time of things over the last few months, and they can land another nice prize here with GIT MAKER.

The 7-year-old arrives here on a 4-timer, and has really been going from strength to strength. He produced a lovely jumping display to beat stablemate (and my Welsh National fancy) Super Survivor at Lingfield last time out, and I think Git Maker looks up to defying a mark of 133 in this assignment.

Any rain that falls will be a bonus, and this lightly-raced sort cannot be underestimated. Gavin Sheehan is riding at the peak of his powers and I think this individual will right in the shake-up in an open looking encounter. Git Maker is my each-way play in this one.

Don’t forget Ed will be back on Boxing Day as he lines up his wise wagers on what should be a scintillating afternoon of action for King George Day at Kempton Park!
