Gabriel Jesus makes shock admission about goalscoring that will worry Arsenal fans

Nov 23, 2023

Gabriel Jesus has admitted that goalscoring is not his strong point – much to the shock of Arsenal fans.

The Arsenal star has confessed that scoring goals is not one of his better strengths despite being a striker after he fired another blank in front of goal during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Argentina.

Nicolas Otamendi scored the only goal of the game as the Selecao looked toothless in attack – particularly Jesus, who started the contest.

The 26-year-old’s goal record for Brazil stands at 19 goals in 63 appearances and he has admitted that he does not count scoring as one of his strengths.

“Scoring goals is inevitable (but) it is not my strongest suit,” he told reporters after the match against Argentina.

“I play to score a goal, that’s why I’m in the national team. Scoring goals (again) will happen naturally.”

That might not be what Arsenal fans want to hear, especially considering that they are desperate to sign a striker.

Jesus has scored just once in the Premier League this season in seven appearances, though he has three in three in the Champions League.

The striker signed for the Gunners in 2022 from Manchester City for £45million, scoring 11 times in his debut campaign.

And for his country, he has scored just once in four years – netting the fifth in a 5-1 victory over South Korea in a friendly in June.

It has seen concerns grow over Jesus’ goalscoring record while Arsenal have been linked with strikers ahead of the January transfer window.

Ivan Toney is one of the top names Mikel Arteta is looking at, while Chelsea are also keen on the Brentford star.

Piers Morgan insists Arsenal’s priority in the transfer window should be ‘a world class striker’ and doesn’t believe Gabriel Jesus will fire club to major trophies

Jesus has also had his injury troubles over the past 12 months with Eddie Nketiah filling in largely when the forward is missing.

Kai Havertz has also been signed this summer and can play up top, though his goalscoring record is also less than impressive after one goal in 19 appearances.
