One NBA’s fan shot at glory ended in agony on Sunday night in an unfortunate half-time incident.

The LA Lakers‘ ‘Big Shot Jackpot’ is one of the most lucrative fan challenges in American sport.

Those lucky enough to take part have the opportunity to win a huge windfall if they manage to sink a shot from half-court.

Three years ago, Lakers fan Evan Brooks won $100,000 after successfully scoring from halfway, but Sunday night’s game provided an example of how not to do it.

A Lakers fan named Anthony had an opportunity to win $55,000 but instead left the court with an injury after fluffing his lines.

Straight after his attempt, which sailed wide of the rim, Anthony limped in the direction of the basket before grabbing at his lower back and collapsing to the ground.

The unlucky NBA fan laid flat on his back clutching his left calf before being helped to his feet by the stadium announcer.

10 years ago a Miami Heat fan won $75,000 with an incredible one-handed shot from half-court.

In video footage of the feat, which has been viewed 52 million times on YouTube, the jubilant fan is tackled to the ground by LeBron James – then of the Miami Heat – during the frenzied celebrations.

Sunday’s incident was the only blemish on an otherwise outstanding night for the Lakers and their evergreen talisman.

James is the oldest player in the NBA but the ‘King’ showed age is just as a number in a vintage individual performance.

‘The King’ scored a season-high 37 points to help the Lakers to a 105-104 win over the Houston Rockets.

James, who also added eight assists and six rebounds, made one of two free throws to give Los Angeles the lead with 1.9 seconds remaining.

Dillon Brooks missed a three-point shot at the buzzer that would have snatched the game for Houston.

It is the Lakers’ fifth win in six games since their 128-94 thrashing by the Rockets earlier this month.
