‘Good for AJ’ – Tyson Fury gives classy response to Anthony Joshua using his old trainer Ben Davison for Otto Wallin fight

Tyson Fury has praised Anthony Joshua’s link-up with his old trainer Ben Davison for his next fight.

AJ will take on Otto Wallin on December 23 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as part of an event he will share with Deontay Wilder vs Joseph Parker.

Davison has experience facing Wallin, having previously trained Fury for his win over him in 2019.

This remains the Swede’s only defeat to date.

However, it was the last time Fury and Davison worked together as the Gypsy King was badly cut in that fight and viewed to have significantly underperformed.

He changed things up and appointed SugarHill Steward, who remains his trainer to this day.

The split between Fury and Davison was amicable as the pair shared a partnership for two years and Davison is often credited by the WBC heavyweight world champion as one of the men who helped him most in his remarkable 2018 comeback.

Since then, the trainer has been active with several other big names including former WBO super-middleweight world champion Billy Joe Saunders and current WBA featherweight world champion Leigh Wood.

He’s also played a role in former undisputed lightweight world champion Devin Haney‘s training camps.

In recent weeks though, it’s been revealed that Davison has been working with AJ behind the scenes.

Following his defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua jetted off to the USA to start working with Derrick James as his new trainer.

Together they’ve recorded two victories in 2023 – against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius.

However, when he’s at home in the UK, Joshua has been working with Davison.

And, according to the Star, AJ has decided to train at home for the Wallin fight, so will have Davison as his main trainer in his corner on December 23.

After that though, it’s claimed he will return to work with James again.

Asked about this on Thursday, Fury reacted: “That’s a good match-up.

“It’s a very good move. I think it’s good for AJ because he’s local. I think it’s a good move.”
