Rasmus Hojlund will be ‘having sleepless nights’ over Manchester United role

Alan Shearer is convinced Rasmus Hojlund’s Premier League form will be bothering him.

The Manchester United striker has so far been firing on all cylinders in Europe, despite his team’s best efforts to take the headlines away.

Hojlund set a new record for United midweek with his fifth goal in four Champions League games, and he was making his 12th start in 15 games in all competitions.

Domestically, though, it’s been a completely different story, with the Dane yet to register a goal or an assist in nine Premier League matches.

United paid a whopping £73million for the striker in the summer, despite him having just a single season of football in a major European league with Atalanta.

He’s now essentially the club’s first choice forward at just 20-years-old, with Anthony Martial his only competition for the striker’s berth, and putting up barely any fight.

Shearer thinks it’s too much too soon for Hojlund, who will surely be bothered by the situation.

“He shouldn’t be in the position he is in, in terms of the fee that’s been paid for him and the pressure that is on him,” the Premier League’s all-time top scorer began.

“He should be one that is in, then out, using him as a substitute and starting him here and there.

“They should have a big hitter in there so I do have a bit of sympathy for him. I do see that there is a potential goal-scorer in there.

“He will be having sleepless nights with what is happening in front of goal in the Premier League.”
