Chelsea will be aiming to build on their dramatic win over Tottenham when they host Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues handed Spurs their first loss of the Premier League season as they came away 4-1 winners in an action-packed London derby

But that victory allowed Man City to claim back top spot in the table and they will be out to maintain their lead at the summit this weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side have enjoyed recent trips to Stamford Bridge, winning their last three, meaning Mauricio Pochettino faces a tough task to make it back-to-back wins.

Chelsea vs Man City: First goal wins

The last four Premier League meetings between Man City and Chelsea have ended 1-0.

And Guardiola’s side have won every single one.

Most recently, City came out on top after already being crowned champions last season, thanks to a goal from Julian Alvarez.

That backed up an away win earlier in the campaign in which Riyad Mahrez’s second-half strike was the difference at Stamford Bridge.

City also did the 1-0 double the season before as Kevin De Bruyne won the game in January 2022 after Gabriel Jesus scored in September 2021.

Guardiola will now be aiming to get his side on the way to yet another double and if it ends 1-0 again, it is unlikely that there will be any complaints.

Man City have loved playing Chelsea in recent years

Man City have loved playing Chelsea in recent years
  • Chelsea have lost their last four Premier League meetings with Man City – all by a 1-0 scoreline – since a 2-1 away win in May 2021. The Blues haven’t lost five consecutive league games against an opponent since a run of seven against Blackburn between 1993 and 1996.
  • Man City have won their last three Premier League away games against Chelsea, as many victories as they had in their previous 22 visits to Stamford Bridge (D5 L14).

Chelsea vs Man City: Team news

Enzo Fernandez was injured during Chelsea’s win over Tottenham and was substituted during the second half.

The midfielder didn’t take part in training earlier this week, but he has since returned and could be fit to feature for the Blues.

Reece James is back fit while Armando Broja is close to a return but Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia and Carney Chukwuemeka remain out.

Christopher Nkunku was seen back among the first team in the gym but his return will not happen this weekend.

As for Man City, John Stones is expected to be out for a while with a thigh issue.

Manuel Akanji is suffering from a back problem while Sergio Gomez and Kevin De Bruyne remain out of action long-term.

Jack Grealish is competing for a starting spot but Jeremy Doku’s incredible performance against Bournemouth should see him keep his place.

  • Jeremy Doku registered four assists in Manchester City’s 6-1 win over Bournemouth on MD11, becoming the first City player to assist four goals in a Premier League game. It took his overall total to five assists in eight Premier League appearances – only Kyle Walker-Peters (five games), Elano (seven) and Faustino Asprilla (seven) have assisted five goals in fewer appearances.

Chelsea vs Man City: What has been said?

Grealish has been speaking about the new competition in Doku and how he is coping with limited game time this season.

Speaking after Man City’s midweek win in the Champions League, he said: “That’s my first 90 minutes in about six weeks. It’s what I wanted.

“Obviously, I want to play every game and to play the 90 tonight was nice. We have so much talent all over the pitch – I don’t think I expect to play every game and I don’t think anyone does.

“The manager has a tough job picking an 11 every single week. It’s a pleasure to play in this team and what a team it is.

“I love being out there playing with the boys.”

  • Since losing against Chelsea and Brighton in May 2021, Manchester City have only lost one of their last 68 Premier League games when they have scored the first goal (W61 D6), winning all eight games this season when they have opened the scoring.
