Arsenal vs Burnley predictions

Arsenal were the subject of a controversial decision last weekend, as they suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season.

Anthony Gordon notched the only goal of the game at St James’ Park, giving Newcastle United a 1-0 victory over Mikel Arteta’s men.

The goal could have been disallowed for three reasons: the ball may have been out of play, a potential foul on Gabriel Magalhaes, and a possible offside. Arteta was not happy afterwards.

“Embarrassing, it’s an absolute disgrace, that’s what it is: a disgrace,” he said.

“It’s difficult enough to compete against Newcastle – they are a really good team, but we have to talk about how the hell this goal stood.”

It was an overreaction. Arsenal were perhaps a little unfortunate, but it was not a horrendous decision. The club then compounded the issue by releasing an official statement in support of their manager.

Thankfully for all involved, Arsenal’s next game against Sevilla was more low key. A 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium means the Gunners are on the cusp of securing a place in the knockout phase of the Champions League.

They will now turn their attention back to domestic matters. Depending on Tottenham Hotspur’s result against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the early kick-off, Arsenal could potentially end Saturday on top of the table.

This match is unlikely to cause Arteta’s side too many problems. Burnley are struggling right now and they will find it difficult to live with Arsenal on home turf.

📝 Arsenal vs Burnley betting tips

Arsenal should have too much quality for Burnley when the two teams go head-to-head in the Premier League this weekend.

Arsenal to win to nil – 5/6 (bet365)

Burnley have had a difficult start to life back in the Premier League. They have collected just four points from the last 33 on offer and sit second-bottom of the standings after 11 rounds of fixtures.

Last weekend brought another disappointment. A home game against Crystal Palace looked like a good opportunity for Burnley to register their second win of 2023/24.

Instead, Vincent Kompany’s men slumped to a 2-0 defeat by the Eagles, who were clinical in a way their opponents were not.

Burnley dominated the Championship last term but they are struggling to adjust to the higher standard of the top tier. Kompany is adamant he will not change his ways, but the Belgian will be under huge pressure if his team continues to lose.

Burnley have struggled at both ends of the field. Only Sheffield United (30) have conceded more goals than their 27, while no side has put the ball in the back of the net less often than the Clarets.

Eight goals in 11 games means they are averaging 0.73 per 90 minutes, while they have drawn a blank on five occasions.

Arsenal have the second-best defensive record in the division, so a clean sheet should be well within their grasp.

Tip Arsenal to win to nil at 5/6 with bet365

Arsenal to score in both halves – 8/11 (bet365)

Arsenal found the back of the net in both halves against Sevilla, with Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka on the scoresheet either side of the interval. We fancy their chances of repeating the feat here.

Arsenal have not been firing on all cylinders in attack up to now. They are only the joint-sixth highest scorers in the Premier League and rank seventh for expected goals. The Gunners need to create better chances.

This should be a good opportunity for them to boost their goal return. Arsenal will not have a full complement of players at their disposal, with Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard and Emile Smith Rowse among those sidelined. However, Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah should be fit to feature.

Burnley have been far too open defensively up to now. They are struggling to shut down opposition attacks and are yet to keep a clean sheet this term.

Arsenal should have plenty of joy in attacking areas in both the first and second halves on Saturday.

Bet Arsenal to score in both halves at 8/11 with bet365

Bukayo Saka to score any time – 11/8 (bet365)

If Jesus and Nketiah both miss out this weekend, Saka is one of the players Arteta will look to for goals.

No one has scored as many goals for Arsenal this season as the England international, who has put the ball in the net on six occasions in all competitions.

For a player who is still only 22 years old, Saka is remarkably consistent. He also has vast experience under his belt, having racked up close to 200 appearances for Arsenal already.

Burnley have been substandard out of possession in 2023/24 and they will have to spend most of this game without the ball.

That does not bode well for Kompany’s team ahead of this weekend’s clash. The likes of Saka, Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli will cause the visitors to the Emirates no end of trouble.

At the odds available, this looks like a very attractive wager as Arsenal seek their eighth win of the campaign.

Choose a Bukayo Saka goal at any time at 11/8 with bet365
