Tony Bellew has named the boxer he hated most during his 34-fight professional career and surprisingly it’s not David Haye.

Instead, Bellew said it was Welshman Nathan Cleverly, whom he fought twice, winning one and losing one.

Speaking to Stillryan, Bellew was asked which boxer he fought did he hate the most and he replied: “Nathan Cleverly.

“He looks down his nose at me as if he’s better than me and he also said some things to me after the fight.

“He was very respectful and we shook hands after it and then he went completely back on it and said the opposite to the press.”

The pair clashed for the first time in 2011 for the WBO light heavyweight world title and Bellew was beaten by majority decision.

The two men then had a rematch three years later at cruiserweight, and this time it was Cleverly who fell to defeat by split decision.

Bellew would go on to become world champion at 200lbs, before moving up to heavyweight for the most notable rivalry of his career against Haye, who had recently come out of retirement.

During their press conferences, especially ahead of the first fight, Bellew and Haye traded countless insults.

And on once occasion the pair even came to blows, as Bellew shoved his opponent during a face-off and Haye responded with a punch.

But, the Liverpudlian had the last laugh as on both occasions that they clashed in the ring Bellew won by knockout and Haye went back into retirement.
