Sergio Ramos scores own-goal for Barcelona from Lamine Yamal who he led out as mascot seven years ago

Widely considered one of the greatest defenders of all time, Sergio Ramos showed his age in more ways than one against Barcelona.

The four-time Champions League winner with Real Madrid hadn’t faced his old Clasico rivals in almost three years, but was given a nasty welcome back with Sevilla.

The 37-year-old scored the only goal of the game in the Olimpic Stadium, but unfortunately for him, it was in his own net.

Turning down plenty of interest from the Saudi Pro League during the summer transfer window, Ramos – who was a free agent after leaving Paris Saint-Germain – returned to boyhood club Sevilla.

So far things have gone well, helping the Europa League kings back to winning ways since making his way into the starting eleven.

But against Barca, he had the ultimate show of how much time has passed since he was a key player in one of football’s greatest rivalries.

Turning the ball into his own net with just under 15 minutes to play, Ramos did so off of a header down from Barcelona’s latest starlet Lamine Yamal.

The 16-year-old is the club’s youngest-ever player, and looks set for an elite future at the top of the game, even scoring for Spain’s senior team in his incredibly short career so far.

Ramos will have been absolutely gutted to have gifted Barcelona the three points, but he’ll be just as shocked when he’s reminded of his last meeting with Yamal.

Footage that quickly lit up social media in Spain showed Ramos walking out with the youngster ahead of a Clasico in 2016.

The game at the Camp Nou took place a whole seven years ago, when a visibly excited Yamal was just nine years old.

The youngster gave a slightly timid smile to Ramos as he held his hand, before walking out in a t-shirt in tribute to Johan Cruyff who has just passed away.

Like many of Ramos’ Barcelona meetings, that one was particularly eventful, seeing him pick up one of his five career red cards against the Catalans, but walking away with a 2-1 win thanks to Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
